    A toboggan guard contains and protects a patient's arm or leg alongside the surgical table during procedures where the limb needs to be secured out of the way. The rigid shell keeps the limb in a consistent, protected position without compressing tissue, and the shaped profile guides placement so the setup stays put through repositioning and case activity. Beyond containment, toboggans help prevent interference with IV lines and protect the ulnar nerve against pressure — making them particularly useful in longer procedures where positional injury risk increases.

    How do I choose between straight, curved, and low-profile toboggan profiles?

    Profile selection depends on patient anatomy, table configuration, and how much clearance is available alongside the table. Straight profiles work well for standard limb containment. Curved profiles accommodate a more natural limb position and can be easier to fit around the hip or knee.     What are table extenders used for, and when do I need one?
