Prone Position

Positioning the Patient: Patient is positioned with head in neutral position to align with spine. Arms are brought forward and placed on armboards near head. Arms are flexed at the elbow with hands pronated. Knees are flexed slightly, toes are raised and pointed down.
Pressure Concerns: Orbits, optic nerve, cheek, ear, brachial plexus, thorax, breasts (female), abdomen, iliac crest, genitalia (male), patellae, shins, toes
Common Surgical Procedures: Spine, back, rectum, posterior aspects of extremities
