Eliminate heel pressure and give secure footdrop protection

Rigid podus-type boots are typically used to treat heel ulcers and to help prevent footdrop contractures in patients who are primarily bed-bound.

Shell. A podus boot shell should be rigid enough to prevent plantar flexion and give full heel suspension when the wearer is lying supine in bed. Selecting the correct shell size is essential. Look for a range of sizes or size adjustability. The toe plate accessory is not an adequate substitute for increasing the length of the boot. The toe plate should only be used to keep bedding off the toes.

Rotation. Shells that include an anti-rotation bar also help to maintain the leg in a neutral leg/hip position. This is particularly important in the post-hip replacement or post-stroke patient.

Liner. The greatest variety in podus-type boots is found in the liner. Liners come in a variety of materials, and it is important to match the liner to the patient’s specific needs. Issues to consider are skin coverage, moisture/heat management, washability, padding, and strapping/positioning control. For the greatest skin protection, look for shear-reducing, moisture-wicking fabrics. For positioning and contracture control, look for greater coverage at the foot and shin/calf as well as a secure ankle strap. If heat buildup is a concern, consider a lower-profile liner.

Outsole. When selecting a boot, consider safety during transfer and limited ambulation. Models with a secure outsole attachment or integrated nonskid bottom lower the risk of injury during unassisted transfers, and they allow the patient to participate more fully in transfers without risking further skin breakdown.

The AliMed® MultiBoot™ Family

The MultiBoot™ family of podus-type boots offers a range of special features that help prevent footdrop contracture. The fully suspended heel design and comfort-quality construction provide pressure relief to aid in wound prevent and healing.

Choose the MultiBoot™ that fits your patients' needs

MultiBoot™ X-Cel™ is best when limited ambulation is expected. The easy-on, easy-off outsole is secure and resists unstable twisting. The synthetic fleece liner is generously cut to offer comfort as well as maximum foot and ankle coverage and protection. Use this boot if balance and stability are a concern.

MultiBoot™ Xtra™ with fully covered plastic shell and padded spine holds foot in neutral to prevent footdrop while providing pressure relief and minimizing risk of cross-legged injury. Breathable, moisture-wicking liner keeps fragile skin cool and dry, reducing skin breakdown while additional calf padding safeguards the fragile Achilles region and fully suspends heel for optimal airflow, wound healing and pressure relief. Provides safer transfers with flat nonskid toe plate attachment knob.

MultiBoot™ Standard offers the essentials to meet your needs at an economical price. The standard model includes our secure semirigid plastic shell, offering excellent protection from footdrop contracture and full heel suspension. The laminated, washable synthetic fleece liner offers comfortable padded protection. Optional toe plate cover and ambulation outsole are available to complete this budget-friendly option.
