AliMed^® Solid Seat Insert^™ with Pommel

AliMed® Solid Seat Insert™ (SSI) with Pommel combines the convex-bottom, closed-cell foam base of a Solid Seat Insert with a highly effective abduction wedge to help reduce the risk of adduction while limiting forward sliding in a wheelchair. Firm, fixed pommel resists collapse for secure positioning and is padded with soft, comfortable polyfoam. Solid Seat Insert is only 1-1/2"H at the center and effectively fills sling-seat sag to form a stable, flat sitting surface. Removable, black nonslip vinyl cover is incontinence-resistant and fully launderable with rear ties for security. Available in 16"W or 18"W with three foam options: with standard Closed-Cell Foam for patients without skin integrity issues, with 1"H T-Foam™ layer (memory foam) for excellent pressure distribution and patients with low-to-moderate skin integrity issues, or with a 5/8"H T-Gel™ layer for optimal shear reduction that mimics fatty tissue and moves with the skin for patients with moderate-risk skin integrity issues.

About AliMed® Solid Seat Insert™ (SSI): this innovative design solves the problem of “sling-seat sag” by creating a flat, level sitting surface that can accommodate any positioning or pressure-relief cushion without buckling, helping to prevent sacral sitting and discourage side-to-side tilt for improved postural support, pelvic balance, and even weight distribution. Unlike boards commonly used to bridge sagging seat cavities that can raise the user too high and cause instability, the SSI’s semirigid, all-in-one foam block with flat top and convex base effectively fills this cavity to achieve a flat sitting surface while maintaining a proper height, allowing the user to sit securely while keeping their feet properly positioned on foot supports or the floor.
