A History of Innovation

1970

arrow Julian

Founded by Julian and Barbara Cherubini, AliMed, Inc. begins operations in their home, eventually moving to Boston’s North End before settling in Chinatown.

1971

arrow aliplast

Introduces its first product innovations — advanced fabrication molding materials like AliPlast™ and Plastazote®, both of which are still used today in a wide range of orthotic applications.
 
Publishes its first medical supply catalog — totaling just one page! — and officially launches its direct mail business model.

1974

arrow MedTechna

Launches Med-Techna, Inc., AliMed’s in–house product development and manufacturing arm, and produces its first products — Accommodator™ Insoles and Footdrop Braces.

1980

arrow AliMed catalogs

Increases focus on manufacturing and distribution of key product lines such as wheelchair cushions, upper and lower extremity orthoses, and X-ray and operating room accessories. AliMed begins mailing more sizeable catalogs.

1985

arrow Dedham Building

Relocates to Dedham, Massachusetts, setting up manufacturing operations in a 19th century mill built over Mother Brook, and remains the site of AliMed’s worldwide headquarters today.

1987

arrow freedom brace

Introduces the first FREEDOM® braces designed to allow the “freedom to function” while restricting motion only where needed. Today, the FREEDOM line has grown to include nearly 100 orthopedic support products.

1991

arrow ergonomics

Expands outside the healthcare market into the emerging Ergonomics industry with the addition of keyboard wrist rests and padding solutions to its product line.

1994

arrow warehouse

Adds additional warehouse and manufacturing space on Pottery Lane, located across the street from the Dedham headquarters.

1997

arrow Knee Saver

Introduces the Knee Saver, a patented foam wedge pad designed to relieve knee stress for baseball catchers — endorsed and first worn in Major League Baseball by All-Star Catcher Sandy Alomar, Jr.

2000

arrow Fall Management

Launches the QualCare™ line of Fall Management alarms, strengthening its position in the Long-Term Care market.

2005

arrow skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and orthopedic catalogs

Broadens Skilled Nursing, Rehabilitation, and Orthopedics lines with more distributed products, growing its core direct mail catalog.

2006

arrow operating room and diagnostic imaging catalogs

Triples the size of its Operating Room and Diagnostic Imaging product catalog in just two years.

2011

arrow easierliving

Establishes a stronger foothold in the growing consumer healthcare market, promoting EasierLiving.com to provide patients and their caregivers with a range of home health products and independent living aids.

2016

arrow worldwide business

AliMed provides thousands of products to healthcare facilities and businesses worldwide.
