AliMed D2™ Night Splint Night splints stretch the plantar fascia and foot and calf musculature while you rest or sleep—a key component in the treatment of plantar fasciitis. The issue is most night splints allow little or no adjustability in dorsiflexion, forcing the foot into a near 90° position and requiring you to tolerate this aggressive stretch for the entire night. The end result is noncompliance and one more splint sitting unused in the closet. The D2 Night Splint overcomes these issues by allowing the wearer to begin with a more gradual stretch and progress as tolerance is increased. Stretch is not applied by a fixed shell, but rather a dynamic cord that offers a constant low-load force that adjusts to changes in muscle tone throughout the night. A gradual stretch can be applied during the acute phase of injury and easily progressed as tolerance increases. The D2's articulating shell also promotes greater comfort and safety while walking, allowing it to be worn both at rest and at night to maximize gains and help speed recovery. In order to return to activity in the shortest time possible, treatment should incorporate a combination of night splints, orthotics, stretching and cold therapy. Night Splint usage should be encouraged even after recovery to help maintain flexibility and muscle length.
How It Works
Articulating dorsal shell and adjustable dynamic cord offers a dorsiflexion stretch to help relieve symptoms of plantar fasciitis or allow a low-load stretch to Achilles tendon and calf muscles after post-op Achilles immobilization. Multiple cord hooks permit easy adjustment of cord tension and are numbered, allowing patient to easily gauge progress. Padded terry cloth liner wicks moisture, promoting dry skin and comfortable wear. ROM indicator at hinge allows easy monitoring of progress for documentation. Plush neoprene straps contour to fit foot and calf. Articulating foot piece and soft bottom enhance safety and comfort during nighttime ambulation. Suggested code: L4396.
