Communication Picture Boards are designed to help bridge communication gaps people encounter in emergency situations so emergency needs can be quickly identified and addressed. These boards can be helpful in a variety of settings: in the field, on an ambulance, in a shelter, at an assistance center, in the hospital, etc.
Originally developed to assist emergency first responders communicate with people who are deaf or hard of hearing. They have also proven effective with non-English speaking populations, children, and people with developmental or psychological disabilities and cognitive loss.
The boards are printed with the ink directly impregnated into the plastic as a single process &ndash, they are not laminated and cannot come apart. This maintains the board's integrity, even during decontamination.
The Communication Boards contain pictures with a word describing the picture underneath in both English and Spanish. Several languages are listed further on the back of the board so non-English speaking individuals can identify their language. Custom boards (name, logo, funding source) are available.
