Never Events

Never Events are clinical problems that should not occur to patients. As of October 2008; they will no longer be reimbursed by CMS (Medicare) or many other carriers and payers. Most significantly; facilities will still be responsible for rendering care to impacted patients and will carry the cost of that care. Infections acquired in facilities; pressure ulcers; patient falls and patient elopement and wandering are highly visible Never Events because of cost; newsworthiness; and quality implications.
