AliMed® IV Cuff occludes veins, but not arteries, resulting in the best display of veins possible. Especially beneficial to those whose veins are difficult to raise, such as chemo patients or IV drug users.
How it works:
Tourniquets occlude both venous and arterial flow. While this distends veins to make them visible, it stops arterial flow to the extremity. This makes vein access like trying to inflate a balloon with the end already tied. The unique design of the IV cuff allows pressure to be applied to all commonly used veins on the dorsal surface of the hand. The cuff portion places pressure between the radius and ulnar bones, preventing any pressure on the arteries resting over them. Blood flows in, but not out. This results in the most distended vein possible. Our IV cuff also works on the upper arm, occluding cephalic and basilic veins while allowing arterial flow.
Because you are still obtaining arterial flow into the extremity, the hand remains oxygenated, and pain-free. There's no need to rush, because your patient will remain comfortable for as long as the cuff is in place.
IV cuff easily slips into your lab coat or IV cart. The band is constructed of white stretch hook and loop, with replacement straps available.
